Frequently Asked Questions
I wrote a novel (or stage play or article or short story) that would make a great movie! Can I submit it to the contest?
No, we do not accept novels, stage plays, short stories, treatments, proposals, or spec scripts for existing TV series. Only original screenplays, short film scripts, and TV pilots are eligible for the Indie Black Film competition.
What information do you want on the title page of my script?
Since our judging process is anonymous, please include only the title of your script on your title page. (If you like, you may also include your WGA registration number, but this is not required.) When we receive your entry, we will assign your script a number and the Judges will identify your screenplay solely by its title and script number.
Under no circumstances should you include your name or contact information anywhere within the body of your screenplay.
My screenplay is longer than 120 pages. Will it be disqualified?
No, your script will not be disqualified if it is longer or shorter than the lengths we specify; however, we highly recommend that you adhere to our standard guidelines, as described on the Rules & Guidelines page of our website. The Judges who are reading and evaluating your script are industry professionals, and any deviation from industry standards may put you at a disadvantage.
Once I enter, how will I know for sure that you received my script and payment?
When you’re filling out the contest entry form, once you’ve uploaded your script, a message will pop up on the screen confirming that your script has successfully arrived in our office.
If you pay your entry fee online, either with a credit card, debit card, or PayPal account, you’ll receive an email message from PayPal confirming that your payment has been processed.
If you mail us a check or money order, you may enclose a self-addressed, stamped postcard in the envelope along with your payment, and when your payment arrives in our office we will send that postcard back to you. Your cancelled check will also serve as confirmation.
I just found some typos in the script I submitted. Can I send you my revisions?
Please make sure you proofread your script very carefully before you submit it! Our Administrators and Judges are all paid professionals, and it takes a great deal of time to record, distribute, read, and evaluate each entry; therefore, once you’ve submitted your script, we cannot accept any revisions or corrected pages for that entry under any circumstances.
If you wish to submit a revised draft of your screenplay, you may enter it as a brand new submission and pay the additional entry fee; but, unless you’ve done a extensive and substantial rewrite on your script, we do not encourage this.
